LUCID DREAMING SURREALSCAPE (18 min.) by Sound Artist Andrea Williams (performed live for a CatNapping audience on November 19th, 2023)
WHY DO WE DREAM AT NIGHT? (4 min.) by Sound Artist Andrea Williams (Interviews with friends and strangers, composed December, 2023)
As a culture, we used wake up and share our dreams together with our neighbors, and then go back to sleep, our second sleep. On Sunday, November 19th at the Storefront Gallery in South Troy, participants gathered with their yoga mats and bedding (with some mugwort tea) for a Lucid Dreaming event. Participants listened to an acoustic sound bath and electronic surrealscape (based on sounds from Troy, NY and surrounding areas) by sound artist, Andrea Williams, and then they created collages from the collective experience. The collages will be on display at the Storefront Gallery (344 2nd St Troy, NY) from Dec 10th, 2023 to January 15th, 2024. Come see what patterns emerged in their collective hypnagogic state!
There is an artist reception on Sunday, December 10th from 5-7pm at the Storefront Gallery at 344 2nd St Troy, NY. The artworks will be on display with the lucid dreamy soundscape plus another new sound piece by Andrea Williams based on interviews with friends, family, and strangers asking them: Why Do We Dream At Night?
Hope to see you there, feel free to invite others too! Here is the Facebook Page.
This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Arts Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of The Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by The Arts Center of the Capital Region.
If you'd like more information on Andrea's ongoing SleepWalks project (since 2009) on collaborative dreaming for participants (with collaborator Lee Pembleton and scientist Todd Anderson) check out their blog here: www.sleepwalks.org. Participants have seen each other in the dreams, even sharing the same goal.
